description:The aim of the project is to improve the solar cell performance by the use of novel solution for light capture. We propose the application of a film, composed of ZnO nanoparticles (NPs), as a down converting layer, for enhancing external quantum efficiency and conversion efficiency of a photovoltaic device. Preliminary research, that have been carried out in the Lyon Institute of Nanotechnology (INL), showed that ZnO nanoaggregates have a great potential of application as down converting layers. It has been noticed that a perfect crystallinity of studied ZnO nanoparticles is responsible for the lack of visible luminescence as only exciton emission is observed. Thus, the idea is to enhance green and red luminescence of ZnO NPs, by the introduction of oxygen defects into the nanoparticle structure, for their application in down conversion in Si solar cells. ZnO nanoparticle assembled films are fabricated in using an original and purely physical method, performed in the gas phase: Low Energy Cluster Beam Deposition (LECBD).
